Yes, I can verify that this is true. I bought a couple of Alpine all synchro rebuilt gearboxes w/OD over in the UK a few years back. One was a 10 spline (coarse), the other 25 (fine). The person who sold them to me, who happens to be the SAOC gearbox guru, told me late S5's are fine spline, just was with the non-OD units.
