Subject: tacho

Hi Guys,

Someone was asking about tacho repair ? Well here is how I've repaired mine (which was un stable and reading way too much):

Get the tacho off the car and open it up by twisting the housing. Then have a look at the capacitors, remove the big black one if it is cracked for a new one of the same value. Then remove the PTC resistor and the parrallel resistor for a slightly bigger one. (The PTC is a little disk shaped one, standing uprighton the printed circuit board) Then drill a hole in the back of the housing where the adjustment is (potmeter) Then built it into the dash again, connect a timing light with rev counter or separate rev counter to your ignition. Start the Alp and if you put the dial of the revcounter in front of the screen you can with a small scewdriver adjust the potmeter while revving the engine at 100 rpm and 2000 rpm and voila ready ! There are several different tacho's (see chassis no) which have different internal components,it's important that the affected ones be exchanged by similar ones (See also the Alpines Clubs technical book/Haynes manual)

Hope this helps
