Colin,

Many thanks for sharing the story of your epic trip with us. It was a real treat to follow your exploits almost in real time!

Your reported 32mpg sounds about right; I recently completed my own epic 2,400 mile tour of Norway, Sweden and Finland in my 66 SV at an average of nearly 38mpg (UK gallons that is, equivalent to 1.2 US gallons), although I did have overdrive. My Alpine also only used 1 litre of coolant and 1.5 litres of oil along the way; less than many a modern car would have managed, and my only mishap on the trip was a jammed starter one morning which was soon fixed with a push start!

It just goes to show that despite their age, these cars really can be used for some serious touring!

Cheers, Paul.
