I see the splitter you described that feeds both the wiper motor and the brake light circuit. Now that you have educated me I see that this makes sense since the brake light switch is on the passenger side inner fender well. Do the brake lights pulse to the beat of the windshield wipers when you apply the brakes on a rainy day?
FYI, according to my shop manual it is purple with white for the courtesy lights on a Tiger instead of purple with yellow like you described for the Alpines.

Hi Frank,
Further to my last, if you don't join both greens together at the wiper motor
location, something else (by my reading of the wiring diagram that means the
brake lights) won't get any power. The larger of the two green wires comes
from the fuse panel with 12volt power. It connects to the wiper motor, but
then the smaller of the two greens carries on from this connection (nothing to
do with the motor) to provide the power for the brake lights through the brake
light switch.
