From: RobCarpent(at)aol.com,
Piper was one of the more reputable cam mfgr for rallying and road racing
in the UK as far as rootes engines were concerned.
Sort of like Kent cams for 1600 fords, Piper made some pretty good
cams for the Rootes engines. It is my understanding that originally
the Piper cams were made from thier own blanks, which can allow
a pretty radical profile and rediculous lobe center specs with a
nominal lobe base circle.
This translates to a good cam with proper valve train geometry.
In the book Alpine The Classic Sunbeam by Chris McGovern,
the specs are given for 3 grinds I believe.
Anyhow, if these are what they are reported to be, and in usable
condition, The 285 spec would make for a good hot street cam,
and the 300 spec would make a great road race cam.
