Rich,
Although this information is not derived from years of experience, I think
this should help. My 32/36 DGV is about 2 months old, and this carburetor
is much better suited to the 1600 engine than the 28/36 DCD that I had
previously installed. Although the procedure recommends 1000 rpm for a
sports car idle, this seems too fast for the automatic transmission in my
alpine, so I use 800 RPM.
Brad
The Weber book I have recommends:
A. Adjustments prior to fitting carburetor to the engine:
1. Turn the throttle idling adjustment screw until it just touches the
throttle lever, then continue to screw it in 2 full turns.
2. Turn the idling mixture screw in until it is in light contact with its
seat, then back it out 1 complete turn.
3. Turn the secondary throttle adjustment stop until a gap of .05 mm (0.002
inches) exists between the outer edge of the secondary throttle valve and
the secondary barrel. Check the gap with a feeler gauge.
4. Fast Idle Adjustment - Fully operate the choke lever and, while keeping
the lever stationary, check that the gap between the primary throttle valve
and the outer primary barrel bore is as given in the adjustment data (This
is .85 mm or .033 inches). If not, bend the fast idle operating rod
accordingly. Check the gap with a drill of the correct diameter inserted
into the barrel.
B. Tuning the carburetor after installation.
1. The idling adjustment screws should be set to the positions described in
1 and 2 above.
2. Run the engine up to normal operating temperature.
3. Turn the throttle valve adjusting screw so that the engine runs at the
recommended idle speed. This book recommends 600 - 800 rpm for touring
models and 1000 rpm for sports car models.
4. Turn the idle mixture adjustment screw in or out until the engine runs
at the highest rpm commensurate with even running.
5. Re-adjust the throttle valve adjusting screw if necessary, to bring the
engine speed within limits.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5.

Subject: Weber adjustments
To all the boys and girls in the who run Weber carburetors on their cars:
I'm running a 32-36 Weber on both my Series 3 and Series 5 Alpines.
Although
the carbs are the same and the set up is similar they both have their own
personalities. I'm wondering whether the centuries of knowledge compiled
by
the Sunbeam Faithful can help me take the guess work out of adjusting these
suckers. Thanks.
