I glanced at my Classic Sunbeam book and my Gold Portfolio book. The
pictures confirm two things. First, as someone said, the wipers were
always resting on the passenger side, whether LHD or RHD. Second, I'd say
about 90% of the wipers did not rest well. It was actually rather
embarassing. There was always one wiper arm (usually the passenger side
one), and sometimes both, sticking up a few inches. And these were
pictures from magazine articles when the cars were new!
Here is an interesting fact. Porsche wipers used to start on the passenger
side. Then they switched to the driver side. I looked around on the way
home. On the few 80's 911s that I saw, the wipers were still on the
driver's side. I wonder why they switched. My only guess is for the first
swipe, the driver's side is the first to be cleaned, while with the
passenger side start, the first swipe not only starts on the passenger
side, but pushes the first layer of water and gunk down to the driver's
side. Who knows, who cares.
