It could also be that the pinion and barrel assembly is not moving freely on
the spiral on the armature shaft, or that the teeth on your ring gear (or
pinion) have lost their entrance taper. In the first suggestion, moving the
engine slightly wouldn't help, but subsequent operation might. (I think the
only lubricant recommended is dry graphite, but i'm not sure).
