Road & Track, December, 1961 reports:
"MODS FOR THE ALPINE. Confirmation of some remarks made here several
months ago now comes in the announcement that two modification kits are
available for Sunbeam Alpine owners. A standard Alpine will just touch an
honest 100 mph and the new Stage I kit adds 5 bhp and nearly 10 mph. It
consists of a camshaft, distributor, air cleaner and carburetor
modifications -- all for about $75, plus installation. Stage II costs
about $70 additional and is said to give a top speed of 115 mph. This may
be a little optimistic, but an Alpine did clock 117 mph down the straight
at Le Mans last June. At any rate Stage II adds a lightened flywheel, a
competition clutch and front suspension modifications. With production
racing staging a comeback, the Alpine owner can now go out with a good
chance of bringing home some trophies. The important thing here is that
these kits are not just available on special order; they have them in
stock, right now."
