Hey Everyone,
I just want to share the great news with you that my series 1 is
running again for the first time in about 23 years. Everything went fine
up to the last moment on Friday night, until I found a problem with the
ignition because I couldn't get any spark from the coil. So after
sleeping on the problem, I attempted to try another distributer that I
had on hand this Saturday morning. It fired somewhat until I adjusted
the timing a slight bit and It really ran smoother. After taking some
time, to look at the previous distributer, I found that I didn't
assemble the capacitor and coil leads correctly onto the points. Need to
watch how the nylon insulator goes on last over the wire leads. I had it
the other way around so the nut was grounding the coil.
I blead the brake and the clutch lines (bleading the clutch line is a
real BITC_) which took about 2 hours or so. I haven't taken it out on
the street yet until I fix a leak in a brake line fitting. I need a
muffler, headlights, front turning signals need wiring, secure the
windscreen down to the body (It's just finger tight), bolt down the
seats, etc., etc., just to mention a few things, but I guess in about
two weeks it should be ready for a test drive. I worked pretty hard on
the Alpine over the past summer so tonight my beer should taste pretty
great!!! You guys have a great weekend. (Isn't the weather great today!!
Tomorrow should be the same)
