"Clunk, clunk." As we have all heard discussed of before, after time our
hubs get worn down and start clunking. The clunk on my SV is there once
and a while (of course not now). There was an article in the recent
British Car on how to look at them to see if they are bad. So, I jacked up
the car and pulled a rear wheel. Sure enough, the ridges are pretty pointy
compared to the flatter tops they say is correct.
I called Rick. He tells me that he cannot get new hubs for SI-SIV Alpines,
but used to be able to get new rear hubs for SV's. He also said that the
Midget/Sprite hubs will not work. He used to get his rear hubs from a guy
in Australia. He thinks he can probably still get them. But, they might
be pricey.
Does anyone know any more about this? Does anyone know of any other
suppliers? Are people with SI-SIV's really SOL on wire wheel hubs? Does
anyone have really nice used hubs for any Series? Is there really no way
to get the Midget/Sprite hubs to work?
I cannot imagine my car without wire wheels.
