Bill,

Regarding value, I believe it is worth somewhat less than a comparably equipped manual alpine. I believe the price difference would vary directly with the condition of the car. That is, if the car is in very rough shape, the price would be comparable with that of the manual alpine. But, as the condition improves, I would expect an automatic to fetch much less than a comparable manual alpine. This is because the automatic does not appear to be in high demand (as the manuals with overdrive are).

Regarding the Borg-Warner Type 35 transmission. There are lots of them around. You can even buy a completely rebuilt transmission from http://www.chicagoclassicimports.com/vtrans.html

In my searches on the internet, I found the transmission was used in the following cars (there are lots more):

Citroen DS23 - '73 to ? Volvo (various from '65 to '75) 1973 Triumph 2500TC Mk2 1967 to 1973 MGB 1967 to 1969 MGC 1975 Ford XB Fairmont

Tricomponent.com on the web lists parts for the Borg Warner Type 35 transmission. The link is http://www.tricomponent.com/productlist/plates3-cryl.html

AND a most excellent find - exploded parts pictures of the bog-warner Type 35 transmission - at the TEAE website. Link: http://www.mindspring.com/~teae/alparts.htm

With a dual down draft weber, the automatic transmission gives decent performance. You're definitely not going to be smoking the tires.
