I tried it that way - all except for the sweetheart. Before I could get the felt all the way up against the back, the sides would stick. I even tried cutting the long center of the paper covering the sticky and taking only that strip off, then once the back was stuck, tried to peel back the paper on the sides. That worked well on one side.
