Robert,
It sound to me that (maybe) you are "not" folding the soft top's sides
up and over the outside of the soft top (folding each side inside-out).
The canvas sides can't be stored in each side, body troughs (the
recessed body areas where the top's frame rails swing down into for
storage. The series I (and series II?) soft top is different (from the
later series) because it usually has three windows, and a zipper along
each side-bottom to release the sides for folding (see above). So the
correct method of storage will have the complete soft top, both sides
folded up and over the middle section (looking like wings folded over
it's back; gosh, this is hard to explain). Stuff the complete top down
into the middle trough area, close the side-metal covers, then close the
middle cover. There should be spring plungers (located in each side
cover) that secure the middle cover from flopping open again. Anyway,
that's what my series I is like. BTW, I am missing those two spring
plungers; Does anyone have any??
