I understand that the first 10,000 or so Series Vs all had 4.22 in them [the
factory must have gotten an over stock] regardless of if it was OD or nonOD.
My Series V [nonOD] had a 4.22 but it was toast so I replaced it with a 3.89.
I understand there is a 8% or so difference in acceleration but, frankly, I
could not swear I notice.

In the Sept 97 archives there is a vigorous discussion of the "correct"
differential ratio for an overdrive equiped Alpine.
