In the SS catelog, they show a "SI-II Spec Plate" which is a much larger
plate (maybe 3" by 4.5"?), with all sorts of details about the engine,
gearbox, rear axle, etc. It shows across the top part, two boxes, the long
one one the left is labelled "Chassis No. & Engine No." The small one,
just to the right of the Chassis one is labelled "Colour Code".
Jay-
The plate you describe is exactly what is in my Series l engine compartment,
just above the hyd. fluid reservoir: the Chassis No. & Engine No. "9006272
OD LRX" (stamped in), followed by a Colour Code "box" that has no code in it.
The entire plate, with the exception of the stamped-in VIN #, is silkscreened
with info. Unfortunately, over the years wear has taken its toll on the
painted data, and the color code along with some of the other info is worn
off. I just mention this to point out that the code may not necessarily be
"stamped" and legible in the earlier series.
