I have about finished the addition to my house and am ready to get back on
the Alpine Puzzle.
My machinist said I needed all new valve guides and 2 intake valves. Should
I replace anything else in the head?
I have new pistons, rings, bearings and cam on the way. Any suggestions for
what brand or where to purchase my timing set, lifters and pushrods?
What suggestions are there for carburation other than the Strombergs?
I have been doing some searching for a replacement transmission. It looks as
if we have three very good 5 speed possibilities. For size both the mid '80s
Celica and late '70s B210 5 speed are very close. I think the Celica is
probably a stronger unit. There were four different gear sets available.
The Supra trans is best for durability however it will require some tunnel
mods. The Celica unit is a cast iron case and the Supra unit is aluminum.
For all purposes I think the Celica unit will be the closest fit and easiest
conversion. It looks as if it can be done with a bolt in spacer at the bell
housing, a wishbone mount for the back and a slight enlargement of the
shifter hole. I have to make some better measurements and will post my
findings soon.
I have a full set of AutoMeter gauges for sale that will work great in an
Alpine or Tiger. They are new in the box. $350
