Re: Clutch woes?

Thanks for the replies re my clutch problems.

Herbeam (Tom) suggested WCDS (warped clutch disk syndrome) which I think
might be the problem. My father-in-law (a long time mechanic from the
UK) said they always used to bed in the clutch by taking the car up to
highway speed and slipping the clutch a couple of times. I tried this
last night and the problem seems to have gone away. Let's see if it
lasts...

The Mole and Terry McKitrick suggest lack of lubrication in the
gearshift. I greased the shifter ball when reassembling the 'box. I used
high temp bearing grease. Could this be too thick? I'll re-do this step
if the first 'fix' doesn't last.

SloMoIV(at)aol.com thinks it could be boiling fluid caused by having the
hydraulic line too close to the exhaust. I doubt this because the car
has a Rapier? exhaust, small manifold and one downpipe, heaps of room
there. Also it went back the same as it came out and the problem wasn't
there before.

One other thought is that I may need to change to the later, smaller
diameter slave cyl when using the roller throwout bearing and later
style throwout lever. The smaller diameter slave will give a longer
throw. Anyone had to do this?

(I don't want to pull the !(at)#$% gearbox again!)
Fingers crossed,
Paul.
