Last night, out of curiosity, I decided to check the numbers off of the
two engines I've got, and wouldn't you know, neither is from an Alpine.
The spare, which most recently came from a beat up S IV, is #B0304288
HLSX, which as far as I can tell originally came from a Hillman Minx S V.
The engine currently powering my S IV is #A1838904 HCX, a 1390cc from a
Hillman Minx S II.
My question is how much of either of these two engines can I use in the
process of creating something a little closer to the stock Alpine engine?
Do I need to forget about these two and start from scratch, or is there
any commonality between the various Rootes engines?
