Hello Rob & Listers:I've just gone through this, having determined I do have
a 4:22 rear on my Series V. I have found a used overdrive that's being
rebuilt so I'm sticking with the 4:22. The downside with the 4:22 (if you
don't have an overdrive) is higher than "normal" RPMs at high speeds. The
upside is you get better acceleration with the 4:22 than the more standard
3:89. Discussion on the list has revealed that some of the Series V
production run did include non-overdrive cars with 4:22s so your car may
never have had an O.D. The 3:89 without overdrive will give "calmer"
cruising speeds, but will not be as "quick" off the line. My current 4:22s,
without the O.D. in yet, make for pretty "buzzy" and noisy driving above 60
MPH.
