Hey guys,
The only way to restore gas tanks is to HAVE THEM DIPPED to remove the
rust, and paint. Any pinholes will be repaired by using sheet brass and
soldering (not brazing or any welding). My local radiator and gas tank
restorer will not even start on repairs until the tank returns from the
dippers. The final touch is to have the inside coated with a good gas
tank sealent. This shop uses a material that is apparently recommended
by BMW (they do not use the tank sealer that you can find in motorcycle
shops called "Kreem"). This is the process that the Pros use. Price -
$70.00 for metal dipped clean and $150 to repair pinholes and coat
inside the tank.
