Great book "How to make your car handle", however you need to know
the effective ratio of the control arms as they act as a lever on the
springs.

You could calculate the "at wheel effective spring rate", but this
info is useless when ordering new springs since springs are spec'd
in lb/inch.

Calculating spring rate is simple enough, its the amount of
force in lbs "at the spring" that will compress it one inch.
