Bardahl goes back to the 1950s. It was an oil additive and had a few years
of successful sales, but you are right - it was a snake oil.
It was demonstrated at auto shows by having two wheels like the old metal
skate wheels spinning in oil. One spun in motor oil, the other spun in
Bardahl. They were driven by the same motor. Above each wheel was a bar
which could be pressed down onto the spinning surface of the wheel. The
demonstrator pressed them simultaneously, one with the left hand and one
with the right. Naturally the motor oil one heated up and stalled first -
unless the demonstrator accidently pushed harder on the Bardahl one by
mistake.
