Overheating: epilog

Well, today was the final test. It was about 80 degrees today so I took
my car out for a putt. While driving in normal traffic, it maintained
about 160F (using a 160 thermostat) according to the new mechanical
gauge I installed. The Smiths electric gauge was reading about 105C. In
stop and go traffic it rose to about 180F but then settles down again to
160-165F once I start moving. The big test was at In-n-Out burger for
lunch. I sat in the drive thru line about 30 min. The temp rose to 195F
and was steady. As soon as I started driving again, it went back down to
160-165F.

The next thing I would like to do is get the original gauges reading
correctly. I'm thinking about making a 10v gauge regulator to replace
the stock one. I'm sure I can get the parts from Radio Shack.

What a relief! I'm glad that's over. Now I can concentrate on finishing
the rest of the car.
