dashboard crystals

Jerome brought up the subject of high beam and directional crystals
which reminded me of something I discovered yesterday. I had removed the
dash for painting and intrument cleaning and when I put it back together
the blue and green crystals would not light up. After fooling around
with the wiring for 10 minutes I discovered the crystals pivot up and
down to increase or decrease the brightness level. In the bright ambient
light I could not see the glow of dim position and thought the bulbs
were not burning.

Another trick I learned today after being frustrated by my doors which
would not latch properly ( I've had to slam them harder and harder) is
that the brass "ramp" on the door mounted latch is not a "ramp" . It is
actually a spring loaded slide mechanism that needs to move freely or
the doors will become nearly impossible to latch. After a little
cleaning and light lubrication my Chrissy Evert two handed backhand slam
is now an effortless one finger push.
