The early series cable driven distributor won't mate directly with a
series V motor. The early distributor housing is 3/8" too long making the
distributor 3/8" too short to reach the pump drive in the block. I built an
adaptor by getting another driver dog, grinding it down to 3/8", notching
the top of the dog to mate with with bottom of the early distributor,
welding in another post into the bottom of the driver dog, pressing the dog
onto the bottom of the early distributor, and installed it into my series V
motor in my series II car. No problems several years later.
