I've said this before, so delete if you've read before, but I suggest
copying the wiring diagram and enlarging it as you go. Then get out a
whole assortment of highlighters. Then trace out the wires for each
"system." That is, make multiple enlarged copies, and use a different copy
for each system. I did this for lights, ignition, gauges, etc. Once I did
this, the whole electrical system made so much more sense, and it is now
very quick and easy to trace discrete systems to find what is wrong.
