Hello all,
I'm living in the Netherlands near Arnhem and happy to write to this
fantastic list.
I have been reading the articles with great interest for about four
months now.
At the start I was just curious because I wanted to know more about the
alpines, with the reason of eventually buying one. I scraped the
Internet for information and now have a bookmark list of about 80
sunbeam related web sites .
In December I actually bought a series V (VIN: 67395012364 Forrest
Green) in Ramona CA which was privately owned and in a perfect
restorable state. No rust, never wrecked, complete and very important
with hardtop .
The first contact I made with the owner was true an E-mail response on a
local add. He forwarded me four photo's and answered all my questions.
So after two months we made the deal and I was owner of the Alpine Even
the shipping arrangements where made only true E-mail.
Yes the Alpine had to be paid in advance, so there was a moment that the
money and the car where in Ramona....
My friends told me that I took a great risk, but I was quite sure that
Dan, the owner, was to be trusted. After all we had two months of
e-mail contact and shared a common interest .... Cars. He also owns a
Tiger and a Mustang which he restored himself, so you can say we became
E-mail friends.
Internet is indeed a global village and not only for buying CD's...
(That's what a we do in the Netherlands).
And now after seven weeks on the ocean, the car is in my garage and
looks even better than Dan wrote and I thought.
It is amazing that after stripping the car I found no dents and the
only rust spot so far is in the trunk, due to vibration in the rear
exhaust mounting bolts.
And now for the questions:
-Does anyone know how the exhaust of a series V is mounted? Is this
the same as the series III as show by Jerome at:
www.tgx.com/bridge/sunbeam
-The steering wheel and several knobs have become gray and crumbly due
to the Californian sun. Does anyone know how to bring them back in shape
?
That's it for now. I hope somebody can help me out.
If anyone " in the Netherlands" wants to know more on how I arranged the
deal, just ask
