Chris,
First of all, consider joining the alpine list, there is plenty of good
techincal talk and experience that you could possibly gain from.
A stock virgin SV head will have between 37 and 38 CC displacement
in the combustion chamber itself.
The sum total of each cyl volumes will be approx 47.5 CCs.
This includes the gasket displacement, piston deck loss, and piston
dish loss.
The installed spring heights are specified within the Rootes 1725 small
car range, which is available from several sunbeam parts supliers, for
somewhere around $50. The spring information within it is accurate, as
I used it to verify the spring seating force and rates of stock springs.
The standard spring shims are approx .080 thick, and are cupped to accept
the outter springs.
Good luck, and hope this information is helpfull.

GREETINGS FELLOW SUMBEAM ENTHUSIASTS:
I WAS HOPING THAT SOMEONE OUT THERE KNEW THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION.
I AM HAVING A 1725CC ALPINE MOTOR REMANUFACTURED. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT
THE "VALVE INSTALLED HEIGHT" OR THE "VALVE SPRING INSTALLED HEIGHT"
OR THE "CUMBUSTION CHAMBER VOLUME" IS. SO MY THREE-YEAR-OLD CAN ONLY SIT
IN THE CAR. WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS "BABY" (AS MY SON CALLS IT) FOR
OVER A YEAR. SERIES 5 MOTOR. VALVE SPRINGS SET ON THIN SHIMS NOT CUPS. NEW
SEATS NEED TO BE GROUND. NEED TO CC THE BORES FIRST. ANY ONE OF THE THREE
ABOVE WILL CURE THE PROBLEM. I KNOW THAT THE SPECS THAT I HAVE BEEN GIVEN
FOR THE OUTER SPRING ARE 1.55. WRONG! IT IS A GT MOTOR AND I DON?T KNOW
MUCH MORE THAN THAT. ANY HELP WILL BE TRULY GREATLY APPRECIATED.
