rear bumper question

Well I'm starting to take inventory of what my 66 Alpine needs. One
thing I noticed is the placement of the push button trunk release in
relation to the rear bumber. It's very awkward to get at and impossible
to use a key as the top of the bumper interferes. The front and rear
bumpers seem to be identical. Is it possible the PO used a spare front
bumper in the rear. If anyone can confirm this or give me any insight it
would be appreciated.
