We're wrapping up our refurb on the S3 (finally). The temp
gauge had never seemed to register much over 120F in the past,
and the car never got hot. Now that I've replaced the thermostat
and sending unit, I'm getting over 220F on the gauge - but the
car still seems to be running ok and not overheating. I suspect
the instrument voltage regulator...my cheap voltmeter was
indicating around 11.5V, and I've been told it should be more
like 10V. Now, the problem is that my local parts supplier
(Rick at SS) only carries a transistorized replacement for
negative ground. Fine, you say, just convert to negative
ground - except I'm already running a somewhat pricey Pertronix
ignition that is positive ground. So does anyone have a source
for the old style mechanical instrument voltage regulator, or
has anyone constructed a replacement? Thanks for the help...
