Thanks to PTC member Jim Leach my winter project is moving along. I do as
much as I can and Jim tells me what to do and supplies parts [am I lucky or
what?].

The engine was rebored +20 and the dish pistons from England were used. The
machine shop balanced the crankshaft, pully to flywheel including the pistons
[I did not see the process, I would like to see how that is done]. We put
the short block together, installed new clutch parts, attached the gear box
with OD that I got 2 years ago and finally, last weekend, installed them into
the car.

The head was completed this week, beautiful.

I sprayed the engine compartment about a month ago and now have reattached
the brake lines and have just about finished reattaching the electrics.

Someone was asking about the fuel line fitting to the fuel pump. When I
stripped the engine last fall prior to pulling the engine out I could not
unscrew the coupling without twisting and breaking the plastic line so I
unbolted the pump and turned it over while holding the coupling in place. To
my surprise, on removal there was nothing apparent inside that would result
in a nonleak fitting. The line just runs into the smooth inner bore of the
coupler which screws into the pump housing. You might think it would just
fall out. Looking inside I think the end of the line may flare out when the
coupler is tightened down [and in my case it obviously did as it was firmly
attached to the coupler]. How that results in a fitting that does not leak
is a mystery to me. Hope it goes back in OK.
