Sergio, When you say can this be done while on the car I assume you
mean adjust the shim pack on the steering box as opposed to replace the
steering box. Yes, and there are no gotcha's. Just remove four bolts
that hold the top cover and remove one of the metal shims. Bolt the
cover back down and see if there is still play in the steering.If so ,
remove another shim until it is right. You can make your own paper
gaskets by tracing a shim onto notebook paper and spraying them with
high tack spray gasket sealer. If your paper is too thick it might
counteract the effects of removing one of the thinner shims. If you have
a dial guage you can check the amount of end float on the rocker shaft
as described in the workshop manual section J page 10. If you hurry
you can be done before dark tonight.
