Andy,
I have done this on my wifes Alpine. I take the intake exhaust manifolds off.
The alternator and water pump. This makes life much easier pulling the motor.
If you plan to leave the transmission in then your job will be slightly
harder finding a chain affixing place at the rear of the engine except for a
head bolt or stud. You could hook up to an intake manifold stud but I don't
recommend it. Could bend it or scratch the sealing surface of the head to
intake. I pulled the engine & trans out complete. I hook my chain at the rear
with a bolt going through the bell housing into the motor just above the
starter. Then on the front I take one of the through bolt holes on the front
timing cover engine support near the fuel pump. The chain fall hooking point
is above cylinder # 2 this way we have the natural tilt needed to pull both
units out at the same time. Be sure to make a loop in the chain using a long
bolt or two bolts to keep the hook from sliding down the chain and changing
the pivot point. If you haven't taken the radiator out please do so. The
rest is straight forward common sense. Good luck. If you can pull aTiger
motor out you can do an Alpine easily!
