shifting without the clutch

I have gotten into the habit of pulling the shifter out of gear
without using the clutch as I approach a stop sign. Usually it easily
slides out but if it offers resistance I use the clutch. Am I headed for
trouble if I continue this? I've owned other manual trans cars and would
do this on occasion but for some reason I've found it more enticing with
the Alpine.
