Did the aux ignition switch help your situation?
It helps most of the time.
The added compression in your engine, along with the marginal
torque output of the lucas starter, is just too much for the
starter, and it stalls.
Tilton makes a gear reduced starter for the lucas unit.
Costs about $350, available from Pegasus race products.
I have heard through the vintage race folks that izuzu has
a starter that is supposed to be a lucas knock off.
It is also alledgedly a gear reduced unit, and could likely
be purchased as a rebuilt, or even junkyard unit.
Just a few thoughts.

It's set at 4 deg BTDC because of the Isky street grind on the cam.
