Torquing Heads #2

Aside from the cold vs. hot issue, I was told once that I should use the
beam type torque wrench rather than the clicking kind on the head. The
argument was that the beam type was more accurate and the click kind can
cause you to over torque the head. I don't know if this was just a
generalization because cheaper click kinds may not be fine enough.

Remember when using the beam type, that the "wobbly" handle has to stay
wobbly - and the top cannot make contact with the shaft. This makes sure
you are pushing at the right point on the lever so that the leverage is
properly calculated with the torque guage.

One more thought. We had a thread some time back about torquing dry versus
lubricated threads. A dry thread will bind against itself and not get to
its true torque setting. I don't know what if anything to suggest for the
head bolts. Maybe some anti-seize?
