Clutchless in Qualicum

Tony,

Not sure about the history of your clutch woes but here is my quirky
experience with a new clutch:

After I fitted a new clutch plate (8.5in), pressure plate (coil spring),
and roller t/o bearing (Green Bearing), the car would shift OK when cold
then get harder and harder to engage a gear as it warmed up. I rebled
the hydraulics, checked gearbox oil, etc, and was about to pull it all
apart again when I spoke to my father-in-law (a 60's era mechanic).

He told me to take the car out on the open road, get it in top gear (not
O/D), and just slightly slip the clutch two or three times. He said that
the clutch plates warp ever so slightly if left on the shelf for a while
and that as things heated up and expanded it was enough to cause the
clutch to drag. Slipping like that would take the high spots off the
friction material. This 'fix' worked for me.

Cheers,
Paul.
