ignition trouble solved?

I've been busy the last couple evenings trying to get my # 1 and 2
cylinder spark plugs to fire. I was convinced the points were the
culprit and ordered a Pertronix ignitor which should be here by the
weekend. However, I couldn't just sit on my thumbs the rest of the week
so I tore into the distributor again and after an hour of trying to
modify the adjustibility of the points and meeting with no success I
decided to try a new rotor . Luckily I had one on hand. VROOM. I raced
off down the street to see if I could find my wife who had gone for a
walk . Of course I wanted to display my auto repair prowess, so when I
saw her around the corner I gunned it with hopes of roaring past her,
horn honking and my hair blowing in the breeze. Instead, it stalled as I
approached the corner and my momentum carried me silently and humbly
toward her, pulling up 50 feet short. She could hear me unsuccessfully
trying to restart it as she approached and offered to give me a push
start. Instead, I pulled the distributor cap, poked at the rotor with my
finger(my tools were at home) and for whatever reason, after replacing
the cap it started. This time I roared off, horn honking , hair blowing
in the breeze.
