Thanks for the thoughts, Steve and Jarrid. I think I'll probably do just
tha (swap to non-self adjusting). I have another rear end which has the
non adjusting backing plate and other stuff. So, I'll just spring for the
new slaves when I put it all back together again. And, I got some new SV
rear wire hubs to install - so I have to pull them anyway.

If someone had said "Naw, there is nothing wrong with them and they will
work just fine as long as you A, B, C and D," then I would have kept them.

Jay:My vote is to switch back to the manually adjustable type. I've had
both
and if the "self adjuster" stops adjusting, you're pretty much out of luck.
Mine got to the point of adjusting the brakes so well they locked all the
time.
I had to force that little adjuster wheel back a couple of "clicks" with a
wrench a couple of times to get the brakes to work properly and this is NOT
the
way to do it (and I won't vouch for the safety of this method, which I'm
sure
is not good). With the manual setup, it's very easy to do the adjustment
and
you have more choice on how to do it. If you do stick to the "self
adjuster",
Sunbeam Specialties used to carry them and the other suppliers (Tiger Tom,
etc.) may also.
