You may have already tried this:
You must ensure that the hole in the top of the brake master cylinder in
clear to allow venting when the brake is released otherwise the fluid will
just stay in the lines rather than returning to the cylinder, keeping the
brakes on.
The fluid will be forced into the pipes by the brake pedal but there is no
such force to return it if the vent is blocked.
The slackening off one of your pipes is probably providing this vent for
the fluid to return but is a risky process.
