Question for the Pinemasters

Dear All,
Well, I found a 69 GT 1700 and the block is now getting what it needs at one
of the best machine shops in Colorado. I am awaiting the guy to call me
after tanking and taking all the measurments. I will be purchasing most of
my parts through Rick at SS.
My question is this: After scraping two other engines I now have three
different styles of lifter push-rod covers that go on the side of the block
and head. One has no crack vent, one has one that goes straight down and
blows out about 12" lower, the other has a short stub that goes "up" and a
hose connects on it that I supose connects the the oil fill neck on the valve
cover.
Is this correct? Which method should I go with and why did they change it so
many times?
I am getting ready to have a bunch of this stuff powder coated and I don't
want to end up coating the wrong one.

Thanks for the help.
