Just got back from SUNI yesterday. What a great event. The only Sunbeam
we saw on the way back was a beautiful blue Tiger on a trailer being
pulled by Joe & Georgia Smith and some of the New Zealanders they took
to the event with them in Vanna White (their white van!).
Very sorry to hear about Bill & Grace's accident and hope all goes well.
Anyway, my latest problem is my alternator is now not charging. When I
got back from SUNI, the car had been sitting for two weeks and the
battery was dead. It jump started immediately but the ammeter shows no
charge, only discharge. It charged fine before its two week slumber. You
can hear the "click" from the relay when you turn the key on & off so I
don't think I knocked anything loose under the dash messing about before
SUNI. I suspect the Lucas "4TR Alternator Control" box as this is
similar to what I experienced previously. At that time, I replaced the
unit with a used one, and it has worked fine until now.
Do these fail suddenly like this? I wonder if the jump start did
something, although I've done this many times with no problems. Is there
any way to test them off the car? My inclination is to just buy a new
one and plug it in and hope for the best but that's $40 on a chance.
I'm a bit concerned that something else may be going on, my heater
blower switch failing and now this.
As usual, all advice and suggestions will be appreciated!
