This week, with my everyday sedan in the shop for collision repair
I've been forced to use my SV for business travel. Avoiding the
expressways where possible , this morning I took a fun, twisty road
toward the city but was dissapointed when I caught up to a little old
lady just as the two tightest turns of the stretch were looming ahead. I
stayed behind her through the zig and then gunned it to pass her coming
out of the zag. Just as I was along side her, my Pine listed sharply to
the driver side and was accompanied by a metallic screeching. I was able
to slow down and turn into a side street where I discoverd my rear wheel
had taken leave of it's mooring. I found the wheel in someones yard with
the knockoff still attached.
The threads on the knockoff were stripped but the hub ( still in place
on the car ) appears to be ok.
Now the questions. Has this ever happened to anyone? What material
is the knockoff made of-softer than the hub? Could the fact that I did
not lubricate the threads after completely cleaning them this spring
have contrbuted to excessive wear-or my participation in the autocross
at SUNI? What about the other 3 wheels? What would you do?
