I only know what I read. You can judge for yourself... but.....
According to the SAOC 1999 Members Handbook the Hillman Minx III had an
engine with a 7 digit serial number beginning with 19 [i.e. A 19 - - - - -].
The handbook does not list any other Rootes engine beginning with 19 except
for some beginning 190 and having 9 digits in the number.
This engine was a type "B" block which is described as: "...first used in Feb
'58.... with an iron head....An aluminium ally head was used by Rootes for
the first time when the Alpine was introduced using this block. A 3"
(76.2mm) stroke crank (at)/7 as used in block 'A', now giving 1494cc (91.2 c.i.).
Looks like same as a Series I engine block but not originally installed in an
Alpine since the Series I engine had s/n B90 [7 digits].
