It is hard to understand your exact problem without seeing it. Are the
top rails aligned with the window? Does where the top rail and bottom
rail meet line up with the corner of the window? Is there more gap at
the top, bottom, or is it equal accros the entire length? At the
bottom of the rails you're having trouble with there is a hinge. This
hinge can be bent to get the rails in closer to the window. It also
serves to move the rails side to side for fit and top stowage. Hope
this helps a bit.

Yes, it locks in place by simply tightening down the 2 mounting screws.
If yours are buggered, stainless steel replacement can be obtained
from Sunbeam Specialties. The striker moves to allow for fit
adjustment, both up/down and in/out. I had the same fit problem. I
just moved in the striker, tightened it down, and now my door fits.
