Good news. No more pinging.

The source? ARCO gas. The pinging started after puchasing ARCO 92
octane premium gas. So much for premium. Yesterday I added octane
boost and premium 76 gas to a half full tank. It took about 20 miles
of driving, but the pinging stopped today.

I will never buy ARCO gas again.
