If you want to go to the trouble the way to calibrate the temp gauge can be
done with the gauge loose from the dash board. If you can get the known temp
resistance and install a resistor to ground instead of the sender you will
have a fixed value. Lets say it is 100 Ohms to read 180 degrees F. The temp
gauge has two adjustable poles with fine wire windings these have a magnetic
effect on the needle. You just have to make a slight movement either towards
the center of the gauge or away from the center. This will cause the needle
to move. Just get it where you are certain it will read the temp it is
supposed to. I did this with my gas gauge when I restored Sues S1 to make
sure it was accurate. To do the adjustment turn off ignition power and unhook
the jumper leads that connect the gauge while it is out of the dash. It
worked for me.
