By the way, for no apparent logical reason, my fuel and temperature
guages now read correctly even though the instrument voltage regulator
wires are incorrectly plugged in (I have the double "I" instrument wire
plugged into the "B" post on the regulator. If I plug it where it's
supposed to go, on the "I" post, both guages "peg out" all the way to
the right.) >>
It wouldn't be the first time the factory messed something up....
When I first got my Series V Alpine, (from the original owner), the
windshield wipers parked on the driver's side of the windshield. I had no
idea this was wrong, until a few years later when I got active in TE/AE. So,
I decided to investigate. Long story short - the round contact cap on the
wiper motor, that is marked with 2 positions (one for RHD, one for LHD), was
assembled wrong at the factory. The contact plate inside was riveted on
backwards.
End result... when the car was built, and the wipers tested, they swept
DOWN over the body, instead of up over the glass. As the paint got older, I
could see where the factory touched up the scratch.
Their solution.... take off the LHD wiper arms, and put on RHD ones, and
leave the wipers parked in front of the driver.
Moral of the story - just because a part is new, or clearly marked, is
NOT a guarantee that it's correct!
