The early shocks are quite good.
When functional, they work every bit as well as telescopics, but
can be rebuilt.
There would ne no difference in ride, provided the damping was adequate.
A great deal of sheetmetal mods would be needed to pull off the telescopic
changeover, as well as some changes to the rear axle.
I am a proponent of the early shock design.
The early shocks can be refilled, cleaned and even have its damping
rates altered with the change of the bound/rebound valve.
If your rear shocks arent snuffed, have them rebuilt, and enjoy.
